Welcome to the Dayhoff Bioinformatics Workbench of the Generation Challenge Programme (GCP; www.generationcp.org). On this site, you will find a suite of web tools developed and/or compiled by the crop informatics subprogramme 4 of the GCP, to access and analyze crop germplasm, genotype and genomics data, from research projects of the GCP and/or other public data sources.
Included on this site are (or soon will be) links to the following GCP funded bioinformatics resources: - The GCP and CIRAD funded GreenPhyl phylogenomic database for plant comparative genomics.
- The GCP Comparative Stress Gene Catalog
- GCP Crop Data query interfaces, e.g. for rice, maize and wheat
- Portal for gene expression MAANOVA and RCE analysis job submission to GCP high performance computer (HPC) facility.
- Genome browser for gene expression data cross-linked to QTL map data.
Story Behind the Name of this Server The web server host name is "Dayhoff", named after Dr. Margaret Oakley Dayhoff (1925-83), said to be one of the founders of the field of bioinformatics. Dr. Dayhoff is known for her pioneering analyses of the molecular evolution of biological sequences, codifying evolutionary changes to such sequences in the form of substitution matrices, known today as Dayhoff matrices. In 1965, she published her "atlas" of protein sequences, a predecessor to today's online sequence databases. |
